I WORK IN THE VOICE OVER INDUSTRY AS A(N)
Voice Actor, Copy Writer, Studio Engineer, Creative Director, Agency, Ad Agency
HERE'S A LITTLE ABOUT ME AND MY VOICE OVER EXPERIENCE
Just Ask. Despite popular opinion I do not bite.

Direct email: jsgilbert@pacbell.net

Direct phone: 415-336-6238

Among other things, I enjoy woodworking, painting, cooking and working around the house. I am very lucky to have a professional studio with a picnic area and hot tub, which makes it hard to leave home, but great for doing work.

I also engineer, produce, diorect and cast for audio and video projects and I write on topics that include advertising, video games, gear, etc.
RECENTLY BOOKED PROJECTS
narrator for all Disney/ Pixar Ratatouille edutainment products, Intel, Microsoft, Breast Cancer Foundation, Sam and Max, ComCast, Houghton Miflin, Alamo Docent Tour, Getty Museum tour,
VOICE DESCRIPTION
Lots of real and varying voices for commercials, but probably best known for characters - in particular video games, hovering around 400 titles. Large range from early 30's to late 70's in a very unforced manner.

I also do a lot of impersonatiuons and they can be dead on, although many times I am asked for close hits or apporximations. I have performed everything from Schwarzenneger to James Earl Jones, Morgan Freeman to Lewis Black , the last 27 presidents except for George's Jr. and Sr.

Just ask me or better yet, audition me.
DIALECTS
tons of accents, including most United States regionalisms (New York, Boston, Midwest, California, Texas, Southern) and all the usual suspects - English (various), Irish (various), Scottish (various), Indian, Japanese, Chinese, French, Italian, German, Russian, and many others.
LANGUAGES
I pretty much only speak English, although I know enough to get to a bathroom or have my face slapped in about 40 languages and I traveled abroad extensively when I was younger, which I believe gave me a pretty good ear for coming up with quality accents and regionalisms.

Hey JS.... i've read some of your blog posts on the site and you seem to be very knowledgeable of both sides of the v.o. business, so i was hoping maybe you could give me a little guidance……..I’m in houston and i’m trying to take my career to the next level but I feel stagnant. Would it be advantageous to seek additional representation in more productive areas like Chicago, ny, or la?? Also, how can I remain competitive??........ I usually get work via my local agent, but with the advent of the internet, I’ve noticed the v.o. market is evolving a lot and there are many different v.o. web sites that allow clients to choose voice talent online…. is this something that I should consider? If so, would I need an isdn setup?

J...I read your opinion on the Aphex230 and I am seriously considering getting it. With that unit and my RodeNT1A is there anything else I would need or that you recommend. As I told you earlier I have the Emu1616m so I would be connecting the Aphex to it. Let me know more of your thoughts if you like to share...thx acevedo.luis@hotmail.com

Mr. Gilbert,

John Weeks suggested that I contact you. I have started a discussion at the Gearheads group about the Aphex 230. John mentioned you have working knowledge of this piece?

JS,
I have a Heil PR40 and it sounds "mushy" running through my Aphex 230. I had Aphex tech support on the line helping me tweak the 230 a little, the tech kept coming back to the Heil and how much he didn't like it and it was probably the cause of my issue.
I know you like the Groove Tube GT67 (and so did he), but I saw that you liked the Heil also.
I won't even bring up the TLM103 . . ..
Do you think the GT could help?
Alex
